Will Asia Lead?

While the post-war period saw the surge of Japan, the 1980s the rise of the so-called Asian Tigers, we are currently witnessing the emergence, or re-emergence of China, and to a certain extent also of India. Economic wealth, demographics, and military capacities all point to an unprecedented clout of Asia in the coming decades. But will Asia also assume leadership for global politics and the world economy? How solid is economic development in Asia? Will it be politically stable? What is the role of Europe and United States in shaping it? This conference will discuss the main “macro” trends in Asia, both economic and political. [...]
