GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 29, 2008) – The newest addition to the Acton Institute’s Christian Social Thought Series, Slitting the Sycamore: Christ and Culture in the New Evangelization, seeks to clarify an often confusing area: how to live a genuine Christian life amid the social, economic, and political realities of our time. In this monograph, Eduardo J. Echeverria illuminates the recent history of understanding the proper relationship between the Church and Christ, the world, and culture in light of Pope John Paul II’s “new evangelization.” Echeverria’s purpose, which presupposes that Christians are to be engaged in the world at some level, is to enlighten the thinking of Christians about how to best deal with certain issues of public importance. [...]

By KEITH MARSDEN, June 16, 2008, WSJ. Original version here In the early 1980s, Ronald Reagan embraced the ideas of a small group of economists dubbed "supply-siders." They argued that lower taxes and slimmer government would stimulate growth, enterprise, harder work and higher levels of saving and investment. These views were widely ridiculed at the time, dismissed as "voodoo economics." Reagan did succeed in lowering some taxes. [...]

Dr. Heinrich Bonnenberg, advisor to the Administration of the President of Ukraine (1997-2003), contends that Ukraine’s European background and its strive to fulfill the democratic ideals of the European Revolution of 1848 should be given greater credit.
My name is Susette Kelo. On Monday, June 23, 2008, I need your help in making a little bit of history. June 23 is the third anniversary of the infamous Kelo eminent domain case, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that allowed perfectly well-maintained private homes like mine to be taken by the government and handed over for someone else’s private use. Under that ruling, any home could be taken and destroyed to make way for high-end condos. Any small business could be bulldozed to make way for a big box store. And, tragically, that is what is happening in too many parts of our country. [...]
